CH. ABYDOM BYBYBLACKBIRD OF GLENDOVEER

What is an Abyssinian cat? Well, it is one of the oldest recognized breeds of cat, resembling pictures documented on ancient Egyptian tombs. Abys are medium build cats with large ears and short ticked coats. They come in four recognized colors: Ruddy, Red, Fawn and Blue. Abys are very busy animals and it is said they wake up in the morning with a purpose. They are very affectionate, especially with their owners, but will make time in their busy schedule for anyone or anything that catches their attention. Their attention span seems to be focused on everything at once and they miss nothing. Abys are NOT FOR EVERYONE! These cats can try the patience of even the most devoted person. Anyone considering owning an Aby should be aware that they really are a busy and active creature. But then again, their loving nature ensures their activeness will be forgiven when they stop to give you a hug or kiss.

Glendoveer's Abyssinians, located in Toronto, Canada, come in Ruddy and Red exclusively. They are CFA registered, pedigreed cats which are bred from GCH, RW & NW lines. In future my abys will primarily be registered in CCA (Canadian Cat Association) to support the cat registering body of Canada as well. The cats live in a home rather than a cattery environment. Mates are chosen for their health, personality, appearance and pedigree (to compliment the female). My Abys have free run of the house and sleep on my bed. They are my children and I am very protective of them and their babies. WE DO NOT DECLAW OUR CATS. We feel that declawing, as well as being a totally INHUMANE "elective' procedure which can cause incredible pain and deformities, it can also lead to personality disorders and also leaves the cat defenseless against a preditor should it accidentally get outside! While I do sell some of these babies, there is an interview process and they are sold under contract. My girls and their mates are Feline Leukemia negative and we have DNA tested for Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency in our breeding cats. While NO breeder can guarantee that one of their cats/kittens can not ever get ill, Glendoveer does screen for known diseases that can be accurately screened for, and we will replace a kitten should it die of a genetic illness. Should a kitten develop and die from a disease which cannot be screened for during the initial placement, where the disease was present on placement, we will replace it.
High quality, healthy bloodlines and wonderful personalities are the basis of our breeding program. We specialize in using very old non dilute lines which are not heavily inbred. We do show our cats, but the show win is not the priority since it has been becoming increasingly obvious that in many cases, lines that are chosen only for the show potential are heavily inbred, frequently for many generations. When we feel that we have a lovely cat who also likes to show off, we love to take them to the shows. (See Glendoveer Andale! Andale! Arriba!)
